Councillor Andre Martin
Many of you will recognize Andre from his 20+ years at the Penticton Herald where he used his diverse skillset to effectively oversee all aspects of the Herald, working with the editorial team and advertising strategists, as well as assisting his counterparts in the Kelowna office and guiding over 200 carriers and several direct reports. Andre saw the Herald through many changes, meeting challenges head on and consequently ensuring the paper's continued readership. In 2012, Andre left to start his own firm.
Today, Andre is co-owner of the Western Sun Express delivery, which specializes in confidential medical supply, represents SkyMed, an emergency medical transportation company, and has a consulting portfolio focussing on leadership of community business leaders.
Andre has been very active in the South Okanagan community, giving his time to several local organizations. He is the Chair of the BC Hockey Hall of Fame, has served as President of the 600 member Downtown Penticton Association, President of the Penticton Chamber of Commerce, Director of the South Okanagan Community Foundation and the Challenge Penticton Canada Triathlon race. He was also named Business Leader of the Year for the region in 2011.
With a focus on business, he is helping to launch the Canadian Centre for Business Growth at Okanagan College and serves as a volunteer Chair for Community Futures' Opportunity Knocks program.
Andre shares his life with Barbara and have a blended family of 5 children including twins Pieter and Patrick, Jordan and twins Emily and Harrison. Barb and Andre also open up their home to Mitchell and Praveen while they attend the Okanagan Hockey Academy.
