The Umbrella Project

The City's Arts and Culture Advisory Committee has embarked upon a colourful campaign that not only adds splashes of art throughout Penticton, but also develops resources to support public art in the community.

The Umbrella Project began in spring of 2012 to create an annual fundraising opportunity for the Committee, which will oversee public art and projects in Penticton.

The City of Penticton provided the seed money for the Committee to purchase 30 patio umbrellas, which serve as the cornerstone of the project.

Local artists signed up to paint the patio umbrellas, and these colourful pieces are provided to sponsors for display in visible locations.

Visitors were encouraged to drop by all the locations where Umbrella Project submissions could be found. All umbrellas will be picked up in September and auctioned off at the Reimagine Art Festival. Proceeds during each step of the process will be held in trust for future art projects by the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee.
