Are you 55-70 years old and looking for a kick start to your fitness goals? This FREE program will get you on the right path, with multiple support systems in place to ensure your success. Greater emphasis will be offered on strength and balance exercises and cardiovascular fast-paced walking. Participants will rotate through multiple stations where exercise activities target different muscle groups. Strength training includes primarily the use of resistance bands and body weight exercises, with certain days spent in the Fitness Room using accessible equipment. Our instructor is a certified BCRPA fitness instructor, holding a special designation in 'Older Adult' training.
Participants will have one-on-one time with a trained physiotherapist to set goals and address any underlying issues. Physical therapists are primary access licensed health care professionals that work with all ages of the community, assisting in recovery, enhancement or maximizing physical abilities. Sports Clinic Physiotherapy is a private clinic within the Penticton Community Centre. The clinic provides services such as Functional Capacity Evaluation, pre-employment screens, return to work programs, and athlete screens. These programs represent experience in identifying an individual’s functional abilities.
- Each client will complete a “consent” to be assessed by the physical therapist
- The assessment will follow a SOAP charting format:
S – subjective exams
O – objective exams
A – analysis
P – plan: issues will be matched with an ‘action’ to be considered by the program instructor
- Clients will be processed in a timely way, starting April 10th when the program starts. Assessments will be booked on Tuesdays and Thursdays, on days that the program is scheduled.
- Outcome questionnaires will be developed.

Educational Sessions will also be included and will be advertised directly to program participants as they come available. Topics will include:
The Healthy Brain, Fall Prevention, Nutritional tips/Smart Nutrition, Navigating/Learning About the Health Care System, Managing My Physical Health, Managing My Mental Health, Chronic Disease Self-Management, Weight Management, Hearing, Social Connectedness, and Staying Fit at Home.
We encourage all participants to stay and have a tea on us. We will also be hosting monthly social events to build relationships to help sustain you through this program.

Pre-screening will be required to ensure the health and safety of each participant prior to the start of the program.
