Power outage update
November 15, 2013
Early this morning a large bird flew into the main feed from FortisBC to the Westminster substation, causing the feed to short out. This caused an outage, and City Electric Utility crews were notified and attended to the situation immediately.
A northern portion of the City was impacted until approximately
7:30 a.m., when the power was restored. This restoration caused other problems,
however, and City and Fortis crews had to transfer the load to
another substation. This meant some areas of the City were more affected by the outage than others.
UPDATE as of 11:11 a.m.: Power has been restored to the entire City, including the Naramata Road area and the smaller pockets in the community.
The City of Penticton Electric Utility thanks all customers
for their patience during this outage.
