Roost on Fire fundraiser
August 27, 2013
The Penticton Fire Department invites the public to “Roost on Fire,” a fundraising event to benefit ongoing operations at the Penticton Safety Village.
The Penticton Safety Village offers safety education and awareness to children on a variety of topics from bicycle safety, rules of the road, fire hazard awareness and home fire escape planning. The village is operated by a non-profit society out of its location at 490 Edmonton Ave., and programs are typically run by students with partial funding support. This did not materialize in 2013.
Red Rooster Winery and the Penticton Fire Department have joined forces to help the Penticton Safety Village with the “Roost on Fire” fundraising picnic, set for Sept. 14. The goal is to raise $10,000 for ongoing operations.
Participants can purchase a picnic lunch by Chef Darin Paterson featuring pulled pork sandwiches, pasta salad and a sweet treat to finish off the meal. Picnic-goers can lunch on the lawn around the vineyard, take part in outdoor games or visit Andy's Animal Acres. Penticton Fire Department staff will do demonstrations. Picnic baskets are $30, and can be pre-purchased by Sept. 10 with a $5 discount. Wine by the glass or bottle and sparkling fruit juice will be available, and proceeds from the day will go toward the Penticton Safety Village.
Those who cannot attend can also take part in the fundraiser, as Red Rooster will donate $2 for every bottle purchased by phone, website or in-store on Sept. 14 to the Penticton Safety Village.Roost on Fire will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Sept. 14 at Red Rooster Winery, 891 Naramata Rd. in Penticton.
