Skaha Lake Fitness Park brings workouts to the outdoors

Your workout could be moving outdoors, after the Skaha Lake Fitness Park officially opened for public use today.

A new outdoor fitness park was installed this spring beside the sport courts in Skaha Lake Park, featuring specially designed exercise equipment that can simulate your favourite workout while still enjoying fresh air and natural surroundings.

“The new Skaha Lake Fitness Park is a fantastic addition to our southern waterfront,” said Mayor Garry Litke. “Penticton is an extremely active community, and this gives our residents and visitors yet another option to improve their health all while enjoying stunning lake views.”

Funded in part by the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program, the new outdoor gym is accessible and designed for people of all fitness levels. There is equipment for a variety of workouts from light stretching to cardio to strength conditioning. Combined with the walking paths and stunning lake view, the park offers community members a great way to stay in shape.

Great Outdoor Gym, a Canadian distributor for TriActive America outdoor fitness equipment, provided equipment that is all eco-friendly and powered by users. Pieces that improve strength, co-ordination and flexibility, as well as provide cardiovascular workouts, were added, including a warm-up station, air strider, double leg press, combo press and pull, sit-up bench and accessible multi-gym. The workout equipment was selected after the community was consulted on its preferred choices last fall.

Skaha Lake Fitness Park is among several projects designed to enhance Penticton's waterfronts, an ongoing project that was among Council's strategic priorities.
