Update: salespeople misrepresenting themselves as City employees

Update April 27, 2016

Penticton RCMP identified the employees of an Edmonton based business that have recently been operating door to door in Penticton. They held a valid intercommunity business licence issued by the City of Kelowna. This allowed them to conduct business throughout areas of the Okanagan.

Upon receiving several complaints regarding the aggressive and misrepresentative tactics of the men, and upon the recommendation of Penticton RCMP, the City of Penticton has exercised its right to suspend the permission of this company to operate in Penticton.

The company management has been in touch with the City to apologize for their employees’ behaviour and indicated the employees had been terminated and that their operations in Penticton have ceased.

April 26, 2016 - The City has been made aware that there is a group of males attempting to gain access to city homes throughout the city under the guise of being a city employee.

In no circumstances would city staff, or city contractors, attend your home to gain interior access without either prior notice and consent or by showing City of Penticton official identification. For your safety and comfort please do not permit entry to your home to persons without City of Penticton official identification.

Businesses that conduct door to door visits are required to carry and hold a valid business licence issued by the city. Entry to the interior of your home is at your discretion, you are not required to permit entry to your home to any private business.

If you have any concerns, please contact the city at 250-490-2400 or the RCMP at 250-492-4300.
