August 15 Council Highlights

Fees and Charges Annual Update
Council gave first, second and third reading to the Fees and Charges Amendment Bylaw No. 2017-52.  Fees and charges are used to recover the cost of services provided whenever possible as an alternative to property taxation.  The Staff Report outlining the changes for the 2018 Fees and Charges can be viewed online at www.penticton.ca/council and form a part of the August 15 Regular Agenda.  

1706 Main Street
Following the Public Hearing, Council gave second and third reading to Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2017-50, a bylaw to add the uses “dwelling units, congregate housing, transitional housing and emergency shelter” to the C7 zone on a site specific basis. The property was recently purchased by BC Housing with the intent of converting the motel into housing for those in need of mental health services, persons suffering from addictions and persons in housing crisis.  The property is also intended to accommodate the City’s homeless and emergency weather response shelters. 

910, 920, 932, 946 Eckhardt Ave. W.
Following the Public Hearing, Council gave second and third reading to Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2017-51 to rezone 910 Eckhardt Ave. W. from C8 (Vehicle Service Station) to CT1 (Tourist Commercial); to rezone 920, 932 and 946 Eckhardt Ave. W. from R2 (Small Lot Residential) to CT1 (Tourist Commercial) and to increase the maximum height, waive the bicycle parking and decrease the parking ratio.  The applicant is proposing to construct a four storey, 74 suite hotel. 

703 Forestbrook Drive
Council gave first reading to Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2017-53 and consideration to Development Variance Permit PL2017-7989 and Development Permit PL2017-7990 to rezone the property from R2 (Small Lot Residential) to RM2 (Low Density Multiple Housing).  The applicant is proposing to construct two duplexes for a total of four units. This matter to be forwarded to the September 5, 2017 Public Hearing.

161 Bassett Street
Council gave first reading to OCP Bylaw No. 2017-54, a bylaw changing the OCP designation from LR (Low Density Residential) to MR (Medium Density Residential) and Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2017-55, to rezone a portion of the property from R2 (Small Lot Residential) to RM2 (Low Density Multiple Housing).  The developer intends to subdivide the lot and develop a 4 unit complex and a duplex.  This matter to be forwarded to the September 5, 2017 Public Hearing.

597 Ellis Street
Council gave first reading to Zoning Amendment No. 2017-56 to rezone the property from C3 (Mixed Use Commercial) to RM (Urban Residential).  The applicant is proposing to build a four-unit townhouse development.  This matter to be forwarded to the September 5, 2017 Public Hearing.
