May 2, 2017 – Council Meeting Highlights

Non-Motorized Boat Access Points to Okanagan Lake

Council approved the installation of three non-motorized boat launch sites to service the Okanagan Lake waterfront in the following locations:

  • Marina Way Beach- west of the rock groin
  • West of Martin Street parking lot – west of Pier Water Sports lease area
  • SS Sicamous – west side of SS Sicamous boat

Amendment of Solid Waste Management Plan

Council received an update from the RDOS Solid Waste Management Coordinator about an amendment to the Solid Waste Management Plan. The main purpose of the amendment is to choose a site for a regional compost facility at one of two potential locations. One potential location is located within the Penticton Indian Band Reserve near Highway 3A, and the other location is beside the District of Summerland landfill.

Penticton Creek Restoration Master Plan and 2017 Project Delegation

Council received an update on Penticton Creek restoration which included an overview of background work, the Penticton Creek Master Plan, as well as an outline of construction work planned for this summer. The Penticton Creek Master Plan is guided by the Penticton Creek Restoration Committee.

Development Permit – 32-56 Backstreet Boulevard

Council approved a development permit for 32-56 Backstreet Boulevard to allow the construction of an eight storey building which will house 35 residential units.

Zoning Amendment Bylaw and Development Permit – 285 Nanaimo Ave W

Council gave readings to a zoning amendment bylaw and a development permit that if approved, will permit a 4 storey, 52 unit apartment building at 285 Nanaimo Ave W.

 Zoning Amendment Bylaw – 532/536 Main Street

Council gave readings to a zoning amendment that if approved, would allow dwelling units on the first storey behind commercial spaces to be permitted.
