Library closed due to electrical equipment failure

Penticton –  The City closed the public library on Sunday due to an electrical equipment failure. The library is not expected to open until Thursday at the earliest. The museum and auditorium are also closed.

“The main transformer for the building has blown. Crews are still on site troubleshooting the situation and trying to find the root cause of the failure,” says Bregje Kozak, Manager of Facilities. “It is a specialty part that will have to be shipped from the coast. We expect it will take a few days to install after it arrives.”

The library is running on emergency power to ensure water service does not freeze. Security is also onsite to secure the building. The book drop is open if the public would like to return books.

“We'd appreciate it if people would wait until we're open to return their items and fines will be waived if they're overdue,” says Heather Buzzell, Chief Librarian.

More information about when the building will reopen will be shared when it is available.
