The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay

The Olympic Flame is coming to Penticton on Monday, January 25

The Olympic Torch Relay's national route began on October 30, 2009 in Victoria, BC and will arrive in Penticton in the early afternoon of Monday, January 25, 2010 - nineteen days before the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremonies.

When the Olympic Flame arrives at Penticton's Celebration Site, a ceremonial cauldron will be lit by local resident Susie Welsh.
 

About the Olympic Torch Relay

The 2010 Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and RBC, is a 106 day, 45,000 kilometre journey across Canada that will unify the country and build excitement for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Unleashing the dreams and pride in the hearts of Canadians, the Olympic Torch Relay invites residents from coast to coast to celebrate the possible and make their community and their country a better place.

Penticton Celebration Site - SOEC

Penticton has been invited by VANOC to participate as a celebration site along the relay route. Penticton's community celebration will be held from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm on Monday, January 25, 2010 at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Planning is currently underway for this exciting event, which will capture the spirit of our community and showcase Penticton's unique culture. Program details and entertainment line up to be available soon. Visit this site again soon.

  • Blakey School of Dance with FiddleKids
  • Quax Tai (Cindi Tran) - Vietnamese Singer
  • Aly Duursma - Philipino Dancer
  • Mandeep and Rajdeep Daudhria - Banghra Dance Group
  • Okanagan Symphony Horn Section
  • National Anthem - Mariah Gauthier
  • Okanagan Dance Studios
  • Ari Neufeld
  • Get Bent Belly Dance Group
  • Penticton School of Dance with Jake Evans
  • Bobby Bovenzi’s Nankama African Drum Group

After the wrap-up of the outside show, the Nankama African Drum will lead the community into the South Okanagan Events Centre for a continued show with great sounds of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra while you watch winter sport performances and demonstrations by:

  • Glengarry Skating Club
  • UpperDek Vees
  • MiniVees
  • Penticton Curling Club.

The day's celebrations will end outside the South Okanagan Events Centre with another Freestyle demonstration (weather permitting) to the live entertainment of:

  • The Absolute
  • Chasing Red Lights
  • The Pasties
