Penticton's Community Fire Drill

If a FIRE occurs in your home, can your family

get out quickly & safely?

Does your family know what to do and where to go when your smoke alarm sounds?

Penticton's 2010 Community Fire Drill

Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 6:30pm

The Penticton Fire Department's fire truck sirens will ring at 6:30pm.  We encourage every one living in Penticton to test their smoke alarms and to practice their home escape plans.

Practice your home fire drill with your family or room mates!

  • Test your smoke alarms every month!  If they are big and yellow they are most likely more than 10 years old and need to be replaced.
  • Inter-connected battery operated smoke alarms are now available.  When one rings, they all ring!  This gives you and your family the quickest warning.
  • Do you have a fire extinguisher?  It needs to be mounted near a door so that you can get it quickly and also have a safe route out of your home.

If you discover a fire, use a portable fire extinguisher only if the   following conditions apply:

  • Everyone has left the fire area and is evacuating the building
  • The fire department has been called
  • The fire is confined to a small area
  • A clear escape route exists between you and the fire
  • You have the right kind of fire extinguisher
  • You know how to use the fire extinguisher

Creating Your Home Fire Escape Plan

Please contact the fire department if you have specific questions about fire safety planning in your home.
