The Excitement is Growing!

Whether you are a tiny tot, adventurous youth, active adult or senior, the renovation and addition to the Penticton Community Centre is an exciting project that the whole family can enjoy in the near future!

The plans include a 10-lane, 25 meter square lap pool which will better accommodate the needs of swim clubs, triathletes and the numerous length swimmers who currently utilize the pool.  There will also be a separate, warmer pool that will provide a variety of aquatic experiences for all ages, including a ‘lazy river’, shallow lanes for younger novice swimmers or seniors who require a warmer water environment; a ‘bubble pit’; a gradual ramped entrance; a tot and parent slide; and several spray features such as ‘water column’ and ‘water orchard’ components.  There will also be a new waterslide installed at the south end of the building to replace the existing one for kids to slide their way to new thrills!

This $23.3-million upgrade is currently underway.  Thanks to funding from the ‘Building Canada’ grant (which will provide 2/3 funding), this project is moving forward.

In addition to these great features, grant funding has also been secured for energy conservation upgrades.  One of the objectives in the design is to provide an energy efficient building that helps meet the BC Climate Action Charter goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2012.  Plans are to include lighting replacement, upgraded HVAC equipment, high efficiency boilers and other additional leading technology.  One more way we can improve our business practices without compromising fun!

Visit our website regularly for updates and to track the building progress.  We have also established other communication links so that you can stay informed.  There will be regular updates posted:

  • on the project Hotline – 250-490-2428 press #8
  • in our monthly E-News (click here to subscribe) (or phone 250-490-2435 to be added to the list)

We are excited to share this adventure with you!
