Family Day fun at the Penticton Community Centre

The Penticton Community Centre is putting the fun into Family Day.

As the province of B.C. marks the first Family Day statutory holiday on Monday, Feb. 11, Recreation Department staff has organized a special day devoted to fitness, activities, games and fun so family members of all ages can join in.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a special lineup of activities is planned – with special prices to match. Family admission will only be $25 that day, and a parent and one child will be admitted for $15. Prices include not only swimming, but an entire day of fun. Family Day passes can be purchased on the day of the event.

The swimming pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., so bring your swim trunks for a wild time in the water. Super Gymboree including gym games for all ages will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will also feature an inflatable Gladiator Obstacle and Dino Bouncer. For creative spirits, crafts and puzzles will be available. A video gamer's area will be set up, allowing gamers to challenge their parents to Wii table tennis or virtual bowling. A preschool room will be established in the childminding room, so parents can have a bit of downtime with their younger participants. The Penticton Community Centre's summer day camp leaders will host the whole day, so just put on your wrist bands and play.

Once the children have burned off some energy, everyone is invited back to the Cleland Theatre from 2 to 3:30 p.m. for a screening of Hotel Transylvania, courtesy of Queens Park School PAC. There will be a small concession in the theatre lobby during the movie offering juice boxes and treats.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunches, and extra tables will be set up in the viewing lounge so families can eat together.
