Council Information Session - Sneak-a-peek at arena options

Penticton – Council and the community will get to sneak a peek at the options being considered by the Arena Task Force at the Council Information Session today. The Arena Task Force has arranged a special information session for Council to review the findings of the arena studies and a list of possible options will also be included.

“With the studies now completed, the Task Force has identified five possible options for further discussion,” says Bregje Kozak, Manager of Facilities and staff liaison to the Arena Task Force. “These options have been provided to the arena consultant team to calculate maintenance and operating costs over the life of the buildings which is something the Task Force and community have been asking for.”

At their July 17 meeting, the Task Force will evaluate these options in order to prepare a recommendation for Council to consider for the Strategic Priorities Fund grant application which could earn up to $6 million towards the future of Penticton’s arenas. The Task Force will consider the vision for four fully functional surfaces in the future, the pros and cons of the options based on the studies as well as feedback from the community.

Results from the recent Arena Task Force community survey will also be reviewed as part of the Council Information Session today. Over 560 feedback forms were received following the release of the arena studies at the Open House on June 28. The survey was intended to gather feedback from the community on preferences for the future of Penticton’s aging arenas now that the findings of the studies are in.

“We were very pleased with the level of participation especially considering the tight timing and start of summer vacation,” says JoAnne Kleb, Community Engagement Specialist.

The presentation for today’s Council information session is now available at and for the community to view.  Residents who are unable to attend today’s meeting in person can watch the Live Video Stream and post questions at
