Downtown pedestrians reminded to observe all construction signs

The City of Penticton is reminding pedestrians walking near construction currently taking place along the laneway to the east of Main St, from Backstreet Blvd through to Nanaimo Ave E, to please observe all construction, closure and detour signs that are currently set up, or may be set up in the future.

“Work along this section of laneway, as well as those intersection areas where the laneway connects with Backstreet Blvd and Nanaimo Ave E respectively, are active construction zones”, said Electric Utility Manager, Shawn Filice.

“Movement of equipment and crews within these zones is dynamic and may be unpredictable.  Ground conditions are also subject to change with uneven surfaces, lines, pipes, holes and other obstructions creating possible tripping hazards.  Under no circumstances should pedestrians ignore installed construction, detour or wayfinding signage and either enter into or transit over any marked off, restricted or closed area”.

Pedestrians are also reminded that the 200 Block Main St Breezeway is also closed as part of this project; motorists should exercise additional caution at crosswalks or other areas where pedestrians may unexpectedly step out onto the road.

The City of Penticton thanks everyone in the downtown for their patience and understanding while construction along this section of laneway, as well as the adjacent sidewalks and road intersections is carried out.
