City set to start processing applications for retail cannabis stores

City staff are ready to begin processing 11 applications to open cannabis retail locations in Penticton. The applications were referred to the City by the Province within the initial application window that closed February 1.

“Staff are now preparing the notifications and signage to inform the community about the locations of the applications and initiate the public comment period. We anticipate bringing forth recommendations on the proposed locations to Council in April,” said Planning Manager Blake Laven.

The City is planning several activities in the next few weeks to inform the community about the applications. Property owners and residents within 45 m of an application will receive a notice in the mail. Signs will be installed at each of the locations. A map of the locations and a summary of the applications will be published on The City will notify the community about the start of the two-week public comment process once the notices are in place expected the third week of February.
