Council returns to class for second youth hosted meeting

Following in the footsteps of this spring’s Council meeting hosted at Penticton Secondary School, Council is set to return to the halls of academia with a second youth focused meeting, this time at the Okanagan College’s Penticton campus.

The campus-based meeting is being held in an effort to engage youth and promote local government awareness.

“Council is once again looking forward to connecting with our community’s youth,” said Penticton Mayor, John Vassilaki.  “We all know how busy everyone is, especially our students.  By creating an opportunity for young people to participate in local government by taking our meeting to them, Council hopes to better educate our youth on the process and issues that govern Penticton.”

“We are delighted to welcome Mayor and Council into Okanagan College and provide an amazing opportunity for students to engage in community building”, said Eric Corneau, Regional Dean – South Okanagan.  “Bringing local government into educational institutions reinforces the importance of engagement and participatory planning. This is a great new way for the College to also engage with our community and be a welcoming space for important discussions and events.”

The meeting will commence on October 15th at 1pm and will be held in the college’s Centre of Excellence Building, room PC113. Parking is free but limited.  Carpooling and transit is recommended.
