Fairview Road becomes Rory McIvor Way

During the March 5, 2019 Regular Council meeting, Council supported the change in name of a portion of Fairview Road to Rory McIvor Way. The public attended an unveiling ceremony of the new street sign May 30 at 3pm.

“It’s always a great opportunity to recognize an active member of our community,” says Mayor John Vassilaki. “After all of the years Mr. McIvor spent giving back to our city, we are happy to be able to do something to remember him for his many contributions.”

Rory McIvor was a Library Director, a position he held for 27 years and passed away in November 2017. In addition to being Library Director, Mr. McIvor contributed to the community in various ways including acting on the Board of Governors for Okanagan College and the Director of the Okanagan Summer School of the Arts. Mr. McIvor was also a past City Councillor from 2002-2008 and was the founder of the South Okanagan Community Foundation.

The ceremony took place in the Penticton Museum/Library Lobby located at 785 Main Street at 3pm and was attended by members of Mr. McIvor’s family, Penticton City Council, members of the Penticton Library Board and Library staff.
