Time to MARBLE at the 2018 Public Sculpture Exhibition

(Penticton BC - May 9, 2018) –  The City of Penticton and the Arts, Creative and Cultural Committee of Penticton would like to invite the community to attend the 2018 Public Sculpture Exhibition, set to open this upcoming Saturday, May 12, 2018 with a reception and artist talks at the Penticton Art Gallery Friday, May 11, 2018.

“We are absolutely thrilled about launching the 2018 Penticton Public Sculpture Exhibit on May 12,” says Recreation Business Supervisor, Kelsey Johnson. “Public art is an incredible tool that cultivates great conversations, connects citizens to their neighbours and enriches both our physical and social environments. This year's exhibit will encourage everyone to experience Penticton in a whole new way.”

Created in 2016, Penticton’s Public Sculpture Exhibition is a year-long event designed to showcase sculpture outdoors for all to see. The selected artists work with a wide range of media from metal to mosaic to marble and their influences range from social connectedness to the natural beauty of the BC wilderness.

“Many thanks need to go to our Arts, Creative and Cultural Innovations Committee for dreaming big ideas for the City of Penticton and spearheading this initiative. The Public Sculpture Exhibit is a wonderful example how public art can weave into the fabric of our city's vibrant, diverse and strong community.”

The 2018 program will showcase 6 new pieces and will begin with a reception and artist’s talks at the Penticton Art Gallery, Friday, May 11 at 7:00pm.  The official opening will take place on the steps of City Hall Saturday, May 12 at 10 AM. At the opening, walking maps will be distributed and some of the artists will be at their sculptures, after the opening, to meet the public and tell the story of their work. Bios and additional background on the artists will be available on the City of Penticton website.
