Utility replacement project for 200 Block Main St. “Laneway” set to begin

(Penticton, BC – September 6, 2018) – Starting the week of September 10, work is scheduled to begin along the laneway running on the east side of Main St. in the 200 Block, from Backstreet Blvd to Nanaimo Ave E.  The work being undertaken involves relocating overhead utilities underground and, to make space, repositioning existing water, sanitary and storm sewers.  Once placed underground, the electrical system in that area will see benefits in the form of improved safety and reliability.

This project will involve a significant amount of work along both the width and length of the lane.  During construction, access and service disruptions should be anticipated.  Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians should consider alternative access to properties located along the lane.  In the event of a planned electric service disruption, impacted properties will be given 48 hours notice.

Work will typically take place between the hours of 7am through 7pm.  Installation of all services and repacking of the laneway roadbed is expected in November, with final repaving occurring in spring, 2019.

“The City of Penticton wishes to thank everyone for their patience while this scheduled and planned work is carried out along this lane”, said Electric Utility Manager, Shawn Filice.
