Step 1: Initial Investigation
The property owner or restoration company will arrange to have a City of Penticton building official deem the property safe and determine what type of permits, if any, are required.
Step 2: Hazardous and Nuisance Properties
Buildings deemed a hazard must be demolished or remediated to a safe condition immediately. It must also be registered as a vacant building as per Section 7 of the City of Penticton Good Neighbour Bylaw No. 2012-5018.
Step 3: Remedial Work
If a building is damaged by fire, decay, storms or otherwise to an extent greater than 75% of its assessed value, you will not be allowed to enter the building. The exception is if the whole building is made to comply with the B.C. Building Code. Extensive damage may require a structural engineer as well as consulting BC Housing for Licensing and Consumer Services.
