Latest Update: Small-Scale, Multi-Unit (SSMU) Housing Initiative

On November 1, 2023, the Provincial Government announced proposed changes as part of the Homes for People Action Plan to help create more housing options within BC communities by establishing a more efficient and effective process.

Small-scale, multi-unit housing means between 3 units and 6 units on traditionally single-family detached and duplex zoned lots.

Municipalities will be required to amend their zoning bylaws and official community plans to support the Province’s vision of more homes in our communities for families, seniors, young people and more.

There is a lot of work to be done and staff are in the process of reviewing the proposed legislation and preparing for the future changes prior to the Province’s June 30, 2024 deadline. You can find more information on the Provincial Government’s website.
