Municipal Grants

Municipal Grants

You make a difference. Penticton's vision is to be a "vibrant, innovative, adventurous waterfront city focused on sustainability, community and economic opportunity." Municipal grants are a key part of supporting our community.

As per section 8 (2) of the Community Charter, a municipality "may provide any service that Council considers necessary or desirable, and may do this directly or through another public authority or another person or organization." Financial assistance is available to non-profit organizations that render services to the residents of the City of Penticton, and which would be significantly impaired without such assistance.

Updates on Grant Administration

Starting in the 2025 grant year, the City of Penticton will collaborate with the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen (CFSOS) to administer the municipal grants program. This partnership aims to streamline the application process, improve efficiency, and ensure strategic allocation of resources. The CFSOS benefits from economies of scale and a high level of expertise, enabling it to operate efficiently and effectively. Additionally, the CFSOS can carefully assess and redirect applicants to the most suitable sources of funds for their specific needs. This means that, in some cases, applicants may be guided towards a funder more appropriate for their situation than the municipal grant program, ensuring they receive the best possible support and resources.

Annual municipal grant funds will be allocated to the CFSOS during budget deliberations based on Council's priorities and will focus on areas such as Arts, Culture & Heritage, Health, Safety & Social Services, Parks, Recreation & Sports, and Community Events. Evaluation of grants will remain focused on providing community value, aligning with City priorities, and meeting the needs of the service or event.
