Our organization is a one-stop shop that provides a range of free services to all immigrants, temporary foreign workers, post-secondary international students, and refugees. SOICS assists in the integration of clients through education, advocacy, and projects. We have been managing community projects, building partnerships and achieving integration and multicultural outcomes in the South Okanagan Similkameen for over 45 years.
With the head office in Penticton and outreach services throughout the South Okanagan Similkameen, we meet the clients’ direct needs through language training, licensed childminding, skills development workshops, community connections, employment, and settlement services. Indirectly, we serve the broader community by enhancing its capacity to increase the pace of social and economic integration for newcomers in the region.
Our multilingual team appreciates the valuable contribution immigrants make to Canada while also understanding the challenges of settling in a new country. Our mission is to alleviate the suffering caused by mental illness, for the individual, their loved ones, and the community. We do this by offering free mental health services to individuals and loved ones in the form of both group and individual Peer Support and Family Support.
Through our Peer Support program, individuals living with mental illness are provided individual and/or group support options to learn about community resources available, create social connections, receive self-care education, and achieve individuals goals. In doing so, individuals can learn new skills and tools to serve them in every day life, including in the workforce.
Moreover, we provide information on how to access the free online BC Peer Support Training Curriculum to those interested in becoming Peer Support Workers themselves. In addition, individuals who don't have access to a computer or who need assistance with navigating the training website can book a time to work on the training in our office with the option of having help available.
