School Programs

The Museum is open to visiting school groups and offers a wide variety of programs to meet the requirements of the BC education system. We offer interactive programs that focus on:

  • Unique Geology of the Okanagan Valley
  • Natural History of Canada's only 'Pocket Desert'
  • Art and Culture of the First Okanagan Peoples
  • Pioneer lives of Penticton settlers
  • History of the Kettle Valley Railway
  • Penticton's Military history

Adult Programs

  • The Brown Bag Lecture Series is held every Tuesday at lunchtime (noon to 1pm) from September to April. Each week a guest lecturer speaks about a subject in their area of expertise. Topics range from local history to travel, culture, and natural history. Everyone is welcome to bring their lunches with them, and coffee, tea, and confections are provided. Admission is by donation. Visit this page again at the end of the summer to see the schedule for upcoming speakers and presentations, starting September 2012.  
  • Remembrance Week takes place each November during the week leading up to Remembrance Day, and consists of a series of film presentations and lectures by local veterans and historians on topics of Canadian military history. Admission is by donation.
  • Temporary Exhibit presentations and events take place periodically in conjunction with the opening of new temporary exhibits in the R.N. Atkinson Gallery. These events will be announced during the year.
  • Friends of the Museum social events are open to members of the Friends of the Penticton Museum Society, which the public is invited to join. These events include dinners, picnics, and group trips to other museums.
