Lap Skate
Ages 8+
Fitness lap skating with frequent direction changes. Skate aids and beginner area are not available. Skate rentals are available. A limited quantity of helmets are available at no cost. 

Family Skate
All Ages
Enjoy skating with your family and friends of all ages. Children 7 years and under must be with a guardian (16+) on the ice or in the building supervising. Staff will be on site to assist with skating aids as well as to give tips to new skaters. Activity zones will be offered at the discretion of staff. Skate rentals will be available . A limited quantity of helmets are available at no cost. 

Open Public Skate
All ages
Enjoy traditional loop skating in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Skaters follow a standard loop. 

• Regular admission rates apply
• CSA-approved helmets or winter helmets are not mandatory but strongly recommended
• Rental skates are available
• One-third of the ice is designated for guardians with youth under age 5 

Adult Only Skate
18 years and older
Bring your friends and enjoy a relaxing skate session designed just for adults. Skaters follow a standard loop. 

• CSA-approved helmets or winter helmets are not mandatory but strongly recommended
• Regular admission rates apply 
• Rental skates are available

Stick 'N Puck

Preschool Stick 'N Puck
1-5 yrs, and one adult guardian
Start your little Gretzky's and Wickenheiser's early. Gloves, CSA-approved helmets with cages, and hockey sticks are required. Children must be supervised on the ice by an adult guardian.

Hockey

55+ Drop-In Hockey

Stay fit and have fun playing in this non-contact, non-competitive co-ed recreational drop-in hockey game. Full gear, including a CSA-approved helmet, is required. Maximum of 20 participants per session. Preregister online, by phone, or in person.

• $8.00/visit drop-in fee

Adult Drop-In Hockey
16 years and older
Grab your friends and practice your moves. This is a non-contact, non-competitive co-ed recreational drop-in hockey game. Full gear, including a CSA-approved helmet, is required. Maximum of 20 participants per session. Preregister online, by phone, or in person.

• $10.00 drop-in fee

To make your visit enjoyable and safe for everyone, please follow these rules:

Skating

• Always skate in the designated direction
• Forward skate only
• Do not carry infants or small children on the ice
• Refrain from horseplay, tag, and/or excessive speed
• Keep strollers in designated beginner areas or for Family Skate programming
• No food or drink is allowed on the ice
• No shoes allowed on the ice
• No headphones or cell phones on the ice
• We strongly recommend wearing CSA-approved hockey helmets

Hockey

• A waiver must be signed before entering the programs
• Full hockey gear is required 
• A CSA-approved helmet is required
• Participants under 18 yrs must have a cage on their helmet, and a neck guard
• No contact, slap shots or body checks permitted
• Fair play: players are to rotate shifts to allow ice time for all
• Referees are not provided

Skate Patrol and Arena Staff have the authority to refuse admittance to anyone who violates facility and program rules or who interferes with the safety and/or enjoyment of other skaters.

McLaren Arena is available for private rentals! You’ll find spectator seating for 250, four change rooms, a referee room and a meeting room on-site. The rink is 180' x 80' and includes access to a score clock, goal nets and skate aids.

• Private rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability. 
• Rental skates are not available during private ice rentals. 
• Birthday parties are welcome during public skating times. For more information, please see Birthday Parties below. 
• Insurance listing the City of Penticton as an additional insured for a minimum of $3,000,000 is required for all rentals. For more information, please see Liability Insurance listed below.
• The City does not hold or reserve times, payment is due at the time of booking.
• Rentals are confirmed once the City has received a signed contract, insurance and payment.

• Rates are effective April 1, 2026 - March 31, 2027
• To qualify for the resident rate 51% of participants MUST reside in Penticton
• A 5% tax will be added to all fees

Insurance Requirements

Insurance is required when renting any City venue, including McLaren Arena ice and the meeting room. 

• The City of Penticton must be named as an “Additional Insured” on any General Liability policy.
• The policy shall contain a clause providing that the insurer will give the City thirty (30) days prior written notice in the event of cancellation or material change.
• The organizer or host shall provide the City with evidence of such insurance coverage in the form of an executed copy of a Certificate of Insurance to the City ten (10) days prior to the granting of a License to Use contract.

Meeting Room Included! 

• The meeting room provides a cozy space for snacks, cake, storing presents and taking a break.
• Tables and chairs will be set up for your group. 
• The maximum capacity in the room is 30 people, this number reduces if there are tables and chairs.

The ice rink is now closed for the season. 

Hours of operation: 9am to 9pm daily (now closed for the season)

Family Skating Only (absolutely NO hockey, sticks or pucks allowed)   

Update regarding the rink June 2026: Penticton city council has approved plans to remove boards at the outdoor rink as part of efforts to improve accessibility, reduce maintenance challenges and better support a wider range of community uses. More information to follow on winter usage.  Work to remove the boards is expected to begin this fall, ahead of the winter skating season.

• No ice skate rentals are available at the outdoor rink. BYO skates. 
• No shoes allowed on the ice. 
• Helmets and safety equipment recommended. 
• Be considerate and watch out for others.
• Infants and children should not be carried. 
• No smoking or alcohol.
• The rink is not supervised. Rink is monitored by video surveillance. Rules will be enforced by City staff.
• Weather and ice conditions vary. Inspect the ice before use. Do not use if unsafe and report any issues.
