Sale of Parking Permits for Unassigned (Scramble) Parking Lots
December 6, 2016
Parking permits for the City’s three scramble/unassigned lots (Martin Street behind City Hall, Nanaimo and Brunswick) will go on sale Dec. 15. The front doors of City Hall will open early at 8:00 a.m. with sales beginning at 8:30 a.m.
- Sales are on a first come, first served basis
- Individuals may purchase up to three permits
- All fees must be paid in full by cash or debit
- An online purchasing option is not yet available
For 2017, the fee has increased to $45/month + tax ($540/annually + tax) to reflect current market rates. The City will make available as many permits as possible to be sold on an annual basis to eliminate the need for monthly renters to line up month after month to secure parking. Monthly parking will be made available if permits remain unsold on an annual basis.
Due to possible development of the Brunswick lot later this year, permits for this lot will only be available on a monthly basis. Further, the Gyro lot parking spaces have been combined into the Martin Street/City Hall lot due to construction of the downtown link road.
Demand for these parking stalls has traditionally been high and they have sold out quickly in previous years. City staff will be monitoring the situation and will do their best to advise those in line whether or not they are likely to get a spot. There will be free coffee and cookies and city staff will be available to discuss any questions or concerns regarding annual permits.
