Job fair highlighting new opportunities scheduled for November 26

NEWS RELEASE

In light of recent news that Metric Modular is downsizing its Penticton labour force, the City of Penticton’s Economic Development Department, in conjunction with Work BC’s Penticton office, will be hosting a job fair.  The public is welcome to attend on Tuesday November 26 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Work BC office at 174-1848 Main St.

After recent years of increased orders for residential modular housing, the sector has seen a contraction in new orders which has hurt employment growth in the sector.  Andrew Kemp, the City’s Economic Development Specialist notes, “the regional unemployment rate remains quite low at 4.5 per cent and local employers I speak with continue to indicate the need for new employees.  This event is an opportunity to provide those who are recently out of work employment opportunities and perhaps a new career choice.” Several local employers will be attending the job fair looking to fill outstanding job openings.

“Providing opportunity and proactively engaging with our local employers is a focus of our local Economic Development Department”, stated Mayor Vassilaki.  “This is a great event for those looking to get back to work while continuing to live in our beautiful City.”

Cary Berger the Community Engagement Manager for Work BC’s new all-access location indicates that, “it’s an ideal location to host this event as the Centre provides a comprehensive database of provincial job listings, career tools and other resources for those seeking work as well as parents, teachers, career and employment counsellors and human resources professionals.  In very stressful times where employment is precarious, Work BC can be your partner to finding new employment opportunities to navigate the B.C. labour market”.

“We’re thankful the City is helping us during this challenging times.  We want to support our employees in finding new opportunities in the community,” stated Metric Modular’s President, Stephen Branch.

Any employers interested in attending the job fair should contact Andrew Kemp at andrew.kemp@penticton.ca or 250-490-2590.
