The City of Penticton and School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha) are proud to be preparing to host the 2028 BC Summer Games, marking the event’s 50th anniversary. This is a significant milestone, and the community looks forward to welcoming athletes, coaches and families from across British Columbia.
We understand there are questions about the Penticton Secondary School track and its connection to the Games. We want to reassure the community that Penticton is not at risk of losing the 2028 BC Summer Games.
The BC Games Society awarded the Games to Penticton based on existing facilities and the community’s proven ability to host.
The Penticton Secondary School track remains an important year-round asset for students, local sport organizations and residents. School District 67 has committed $500,000 to begin planning for a future track renewal. This work is in its early stages and is separate from the 2028 BC Summer Games.
Any future upgrades would be a community-led effort, supported through local investment and potential grant opportunities. At this time, there is no provincial funding commitment tied specifically to Games-related upgrades, nor is it required to host the event.
Planning for the 2028 BC Summer Games is underway, with a local organizing committee expected to be established this fall. This is a standard part of host community preparations and separate from any future track renewal discussions.
The City of Penticton and School District 67 will continue to work with the BC Games Society and partners to ensure a successful 50th anniversary Games. More information will be shared as planning progresses.
