Penticton and Ikeda, Japan have been sister cities since 1977, making it one of the oldest sister city relationships in Canada.
Many cultural exchanges and delegations have taken place throughout the years between Penticton and Ikeda, located in the Nakagawa District of Tokachi in Hokkaido.
This ongoing relationship also led to the creation of the Ikeda Japanese Garden, located at the Okanagan Lake waterfront near 15 Ellis Street, just north of the Art Gallery. The garden is open to the public and is a peaceful spot to explore.
