The City of Penticton is in the process of installing decorative security gates on the 200 Block Breezeway with the intent of securing the space during hours when the majority of downtown businesses are closed.
The 200 Block Breezeway is an important part of the downtown streetscape linking the Backstreet parking lot to the Main Street businesses and features a public art installation project and public message board managed by the Downtown Penticton Association.
Closing the space will remove opportunities for unwanted activity (graffiti, litter, camping, etc.) during hours when most stores are closed and allow the breezeway to remain clean and tidy when it reopens in the morning.
The opening and closing of the gates will be managed by Bylaw Services, adjusting for seasonal differences, but will generally be open when businesses are open downtown.
