2022 AccessAbility Week activities at the Community Centre

Recreation Penticton invites residents to learn about disability inclusion and accessibility at the Community Centre during National AccessAbility Week between May 29 and June 4, 2022.  

“In recognition of AccessAbility Week, Recreation Penticton wanted to highlight how the City has reduced barriers to accessibility at the Community Centre and explore ways we can improve,” said Recreation Business Supervisor, Cheryl Wiebe.  

During the week, residents can participate in the following activities:

  • Attend a Try it for Free: Friends in Motion class on Tuesday, May 31 from 9:30 am - 11:30 am.
  • Participate in tours of the Pool and the Fitness Room

  • Arrange for a personal facility tour by contacting Cheryl at cheryl.wiebe@penticton.ca or call 250-490-2428 to schedule an appointment.
  • Complete a feedback form to share your ideas for program offerings or specialized equipment that might help remove barriers to participation.
  • Visit a resource table in the Community Centre lobby with accessible resources and information.

“By offering facility tours, we are hoping to connect individuals to our staff to not only help promote awareness and understanding about our facilities and programs but also to develop relationships to try to break down the barriers to accessibility,” said Wiebe.
