One of the ways that our water system is protected in Penticton is by our Cross Connection Control program (CCC/Backflow) that prevents backflow of non-potable water (not for human consumption) and other fluids from getting into the main treated water supply and the water systems within our buildings.
The majority of the devices that protect against backflow need to be tested annually. To remind the owner or tenant of a building with backflow protection of the next due date for testing, a letter is sent. This notice is sent at times to the building where the device is. However, most times it is sent to a manager, maintenance company, or property manager.
Quite often these managers, maintenance companies or property managers’ change and those letters are returned, due to change in addresses. The notice that testing is due goes un-noted and the device does not get tested and therefore puts the main treated water service and water system in the building at risk of cross contamination due to backflow.
When you as an owner of a strata property, maintenance company or property manager, with a backflow device in the building, have a change in where or who these notice of testing letters are sent, please inform us. We can then have the records updated and the letters will go to the right individual and they will arrange for the backflow device to be tested.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our water system safe and healthy. If you have any questions, please contact the Cross Connection Control Coordinator at 250-490-2416.
