With back-to-school around the corner, parents and guardians of Penticton Secondary and KVR Elementary Schools should be aware of how drop-off routines will be impacted with construction ongoing along Eckhardt Avenue. Use the following information to plan ahead for a successful start to the school year.
Please note that significant traffic is expected along Jermyn Avenue during peak school start and end times throughout construction. Families are encouraged to explore other ways to get to school, such as walking, biking, transit or rolling. If you must drive, please slow down, allow for plenty of extra travel time and obey posted signage. Bylaw officers will be monitoring to ensure appropriate behaviours are followed in school zones.
KVR Elementary
Expect congestion along Jermyn Avenue, with multiple Kiss & Go locations between Government Street and Main Street. Additional parking is available on Forestbrook Drive and Manitoba Street. A map with all the Kiss & Go locations is available at penticton.ca/back-to-school and coloured zones will be painted on designated curbs for grade specific drop-off and pick up locations.
Penticton Secondary School
Significant changes will be in effect. The student drop-off loop will be unavailable and access to the parking lot will be limited to buses, staff, student and visitor parking. Families are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, anticipate delays, and consider using other alternative drop-off locations to help ease congestion, including:
- Penticton Public Library parking lot ('Drive to Five' location)
- Kiss & Go area on the east side of Main Street in front of the school
- Ellis Street
Pedestrians and students walking or biking/rolling to school should also be aware of changes along Eckhardt Avenue. Signage will be in place and a map of detour options is available at penticton.ca/eckhardt
