When a subdivision or commercial property is being developed, temporary water is often provided for construction purposes. This is done by use of a hydrant or the new water service for the property.
The City of Penticton requires temporary water services have a backflow preventer installed during the property development known as portable or bench devices. The devices must be tested annually as required by both the Standards Council of Canada and City bylaws.
The developer must provide a test report for the backflow preventer showing that it has been tested and passed within the last 365 days of the backflow preventer being in use.
The City is able to provide a Hydrant Rental Connection, fitted with a backflow preventer, at a cost to the developer or builder in the event that a backflow preventer is not available.
Once the property is developed, the building(s) may require their own backflow preventers based on the hazard of the building. This is determined during the building permit process.
