Boil Water Notice to remain in place for 200+ homes to allow for testing

News Release

A boil water notice for more than 200 homes south of Brantford Avenue will remain in place throughout the weekend to allow for testing protocols and to ensure the water is safe to drink. The City will provide an update Monday after reviewing the results with Interior Health.

“While water main breaks are not abnormal this time of year as things begin to freeze, it is extremely rare within the City of Penticton to have to issue a boil water notice. We did so out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with Interior Health,” said Len Robson, Public Works Manager. “Although the water main was fixed the same day, it does take some time for the water quality testing process, which is critical to ensure the water is safe to drink. We hope to have some good news for the affected residents soon.”

Once the final results deem the water is safe to consume, the City will rescind the boil water notice and notify all residents in the area by hand-delivering notices. Updates will also be posted to the City’s website at and social media channels.

The City issued the boil water notice on Wednesday in consultation with Interior Health following the water main break at Lakeside Road and Brantford Avenue. This failure resulted in low water pressure, which may lead to contaminants entering the water system.

A boil water notice means residents must bring their water to a rapid, rolling boil for at least one minute prior to using it for domestic purposes, including drinking, making infant formula and juices, cooking, brushing teeth, washing raw foods and making ice. Alternatively, residents may use bottled water.

Homes impacted include those in the area south of Brantford Avenue that use the municipal water supply managed by the City of Penticton. The boundaries of the area affected, include:

  • Lakeside Road – all residents south of Skaha Marina to City limits
  • Brantford Avenue – all residents
  • Finnerty Road – all residents
  • Derenzy Place – all residents
  • Lakeside Court – all residents
  • Smythe Drive – all residents
