Penticton’s final week of summer is packed with festivals and events anticipated to draw thousands to both indoor venues and outdoor parks.
Anticipate crowds at Okanagan Lake Park this weekend during SummerCamp RibFest, featuring a food and live music lineup from Friday, Sept. 13 until Sunday, Sept. 15. Entry is free, with cover band Jack and Jill kicking off the live entertainment on the outdoor stage on Friday.
In addition to the BBQ food available for purchase, the festival will have food trucks, outdoor yard games, inflatables, a vendors’ market and beverage garden. Other musical performers over the weekend include Dane Bateman and Mark Ledlin.
While this event does not require road closures, anyone travelling downtown should anticipate extra congestion, particularly on Saturday around lunchtime during the Penticton Farmers’ Market. Event information is available at summercampfestival.ca.
Also starting Friday, the Vancouver Canucks Young Stars Classic rookie tournaments will take to the ice at the South Okanagan Events Centre (Sept. 13-16), followed by the Canucks Training Camp from Sept. 19-22. More information is available at nhl.com/canucks and tickets are available at ValleyFirstTix.com.
Also taking place on Friday and Saturday this week is the Kettle Mettle Gravel Fondo (Sept. 13-14), starting from Marina Way Park. Bikers will set out into the hills for a scenic race offering varying distances. No road closures required. Event details at kettlemettle.ca.
Later this month, the Canadian Outrigger Distance Championships will take to Okanagan Lake, attracting teams from far and wide (Sept. 28-29). And the Penticton Beer Run will attract hundreds in costumes to run through Penticton’s streets while sampling craft beer from local breweries on Oct. 5.
