City and IRONMAN Canada issue call for artists for new mural

News Release

The City is celebrating the return of the iconic IRONMAN Canada event to Penticton by issuing a call for artists to submit proposals for a new outdoor mural near Okanagan Lake. The artwork will be displayed on the west wall of the building at 185 Lakeshore Drive, which faces the triathlon event’s historic swim start.

Artists are requested to submit proposed designs, as well as examples of previous work, by July 8, 2022. A jury will select the successful design and the artist will be paid $4,000 for the work, funded by a Provincial grant. The City will create and install the mural beginning on Aug. 17, 2022 – just in time for the IRONMAN Canada event on Aug. 28, 2022.

“The City is proud to welcome back IRONMAN Canada to Penticton, where the iconic race began nearly 40 years ago,” said Carly Lewis, Economic Development Manager. “We envision this mural will capture the spirit of this event and help tell the story of its history and importance to Penticton.”

The chosen artwork for the mural will be photographed and reproduced as a graphic on the exterior wall surface. It will be divided into four panels representing four major themes: swim, bike, run and community/volunteerism.

This competition is open to local, national or international artists. For the full application details and requirements, download the Call to Artists application form at

The City and IRONMAN Canada would like to thank the Province of BC for supporting this initiative with grant funding.
