The City of Penticton and UpperDek Vees invite community members curious about adaptive hockey opportunities to attend a try-it-free evening on Sunday, October 6 from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the Okanagan Hockey Training Centre (beside the SOEC at 853 Eckhardt Avenue).
This event is an opportunity to meet the coaches and connect with players. Attendees and guardians are encouraged to bring their skates and helmets to experience time on the ice. Participants will have the option to register for the upcoming season, with ongoing intake available for those who may need more time to decide whether to join.
The UpperDek Vees is a free program designed for individuals experiencing developmental and/or physical medical challenges and offers two levels.
Level 1 – Fresh Start
Fresh Start is ideal for children or beginner skaters who are interested in learning how to play hockey. Coaches provide individual instruction in a safe and supportive environment. Participants will be introduced to skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting in a non-competitive setting.
Level 2 – Advanced
The Advanced program is tailored for teen and adult skaters who are ready to take their skills to the next level. Coaches support these athletes and build on their fundamental hockey skills. Players have opportunities to practice and showcase their teamwork in games against other hockey teams such as the First Responders, Okanagan Hockey Academy, and the Penticton Vees.
