City remains at Stage 1 Water Restrictions

Service Announcement

Penticton is currently in Stage 1 water restrictions and staff continue to monitor water levels.

Each community’s water system is unique which can result in varied levels of restrictions across the region. Currently, we have adequate storage of water (both in the lake and upper reservoirs) to remain at Stage 1 water restrictions. While it is important for everyone to do their part to reduce their water consumption given the level 3 drought conditions, by staying at Stage 1 we have more consistent and predictable daily demands. At higher levels of restrictions, we see spikes on the permitted watering days, which is more challenging operationally on our water system. The City is monitoring the situation closely and there is potential for conditions to change very rapidly.  As a result, the community should be prepared for restrictions to escalate quickly.

Here are a few tips to help conserve water both indoors and outdoors:

  • Turn off taps while brushing your teeth or shaving
  • Be mindful of water usage while doing laundry
  • Make sure your sprinklers are set appropriately
  • Let your lawn go brown
  • Check for leaks in your pipes and irrigation
