City-wide Music Bingo planned for age-friendly fun

News Release

Together with the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-in Centre, the City is hosting a community-wide online Music BingoTM as part of wrapping up work on the Age-Friendly Action Plan. The event is planned for April 15, 2021 between 6 pm to 8 pm and will have a Classic Rock theme.

“One of the key features of an age-friendly community is to have opportunities for social participation with people of all ages and cultures,” says Social Development Specialist Adam Goodwin. “With all of the restrictions on social gathering, this is a great way to bring residents together to collaborate on what kind of experience we want to provide residents in our community while we have some fun.”

The event will be run by Music BingoTM who will provide all of the bingo cards and manage the registration and the game. As it is also a fundraiser for the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-in Centre (PSDIC), there is a charge to participate. Interested citizens can register and purchase their bingo cards from online.musicbingo.com for $10 each plus tax ($6 from each card will go to the PSDIC). The PSDIC will provide baskets for a silent auction and cash prizes for the bingo. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to fund the replacement of major building systems at the Centre. To ensure that cost is not a barrier to participation, a limited number of free cards will be available to residents in need by contacting getconnected@penticton.ca

The event is one of several opportunities for citizens to learn more and share their feedback on the City’s draft Age-Friendly Action Plan. The City began work on the Age-Friendly Action Plan last fall upon receipt of a grant from the province. With the restrictions of COVID-19, community involvement in the development of the plan has been challenging. The City will incorporate information about the Age-Friendly Action Plan as part of the Music BingoTM.

Anyone who wants to learn more about the Age-Friendly Action Plan in more traditional ways can go to shapeyourcitypenticton.ca to participate in an online workshop on April 14 (1 pm to 2:30 pm) or review the draft document and complete a feedback form before April 18, 2021. Copies of the draft document and feedback form will also be available at the City’s engagement kiosks at the Nautical Dog CafĂ© / Marina Building and the library beginning March 29, 2021.

“This is a great opportunity for residents of all ages to get together and have some fun with your entire community and support a great cause,” says Major John Vassilaki. “I encourage you to make it a night for the whole family and help your older relatives and friends to participate.”
