Countdown begins for Subaru IRONMAN Canada’s return to Penticton

News Release

The countdown has begun for Subaru IRONMAN Canada’s return to Penticton, anticipated to attract thousands of athletes and supporters from around the world. As part of the preparations, the City is distributing information to residents about road closures, as well as how to get involved and enjoy the entertainment.

“Athletes love coming here because we are known for lining the streets and cheering them on along the route. We also have such a supportive community of volunteers, who play a huge role in the success of this event,” said Penticton Mayor John Vassilaki. “It has been 10 years since we have hosted IRONMAN Canada, so we can’t wait to show off our community spirit once again.”

Look for the City’s booth at the Penticton Farmers’ Market on Saturday, Aug. 20 and Saturday, Aug. 27 to pick up your free fan kit. This includes street chalk and signs to write messages and show your support along the race routes. Subaru IRONMAN Canada staff will also be on-site on Aug. 20 to provide information about volunteering or to register.

Watch for a notice in your mail box in the coming days outlining important information for residents. Many events and activities are open to the public, and registration is open for the Subaru IRONKIDS Fun Run event.

Be aware that road closures will cause significant delays on Sunday, Aug. 28, including along Main Street and and Skaha Lake Road. Motorists are advised to use Channel Parkway wherever possible. Charts and maps are outlined in the mailout and are posted online at penticton.ca/ironman.

“Penticton is recognized as the endurance sport capital of B.C. and a bucket list destination for many IRONMAN athletes. Let’s give them a warm welcome and keep them coming back year after year,” said Kelsey Johnson, Manager of Recreation, Arts and Culture.
