Draft Esplanade Renewal Plan ready for public review

News Release

The Draft Esplanade Renewal Plan is ready for community review and feedback. The plan sets a vision for how public lands in the Esplanade area will be used over the next 25 years. It supports new amenities and recreation opportunities, while protecting natural areas for future generations.

The draft plan is based on two rounds of public engagement:

  • Phase 1 (May-June 2025): focused on setting the overall vision and direction for the area. Feedback from that phase helped shape updated concept designs, with a focus on better access to the lake and KVR Trail, more natural space, and new day-use amenities.
  • Phase 2 (November-December 2025): asked the community to review these concepts and provide feedback to help identify priority projects. This input was used to refine the concepts and develop the draft plan.

“We heard clearly that people want to see improved facilities and walkability in the area, along with better access to the waterfront,” said Steven Collyer, Housing and Policy Initiatives Manager. “They also told us how important it is to protect natural areas. This draft plan reflects that balance and shows how we’ve used community feedback to guide the next steps. We’re now asking residents to review the draft plan and let us know if it aligns with their vision.”

In addition to being available for public review on Shape Your City, the draft plan will be shared with user groups in the area, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and the Accessibility Advisory Committee for feedback.

Residents can add comments directly to the draft plan online. Feedback received will be shared with Council before a final decision is made on the Esplanade Renewal Plan.

The Draft Esplanade Renewal Plan is available at shapeyourcitypenticton.ca/esplanade. Feedback will be collected through to July 1, 2026.

Reports on the results of Phase 1 and Phase 2 engagement are also available on the website.
