Emergency preparedness workshops next week

Service Announcement

The City of Penticton is continuing to work towards ensuring that community members are prepared for emergencies such as wildfires, landslides and flooding by holding two preparedness workshops next week.

Team members from Penticton Emergency Support Services, the Penticton Fire Department and FireSmart will talk about emergency preparedness for those living within Penticton and what steps you can take to be prepared beforehand.

Participants will also have a chance to be entered into a draw for emergency preparedness kits, or ‘Grab and Go’ bags, which will include supplies provided by the City (valued at more than $60) that an individual might need in the first 72 hours after an emergency.

Two workshops will be taking place on August 17th, 2022. The first will starting at 11 a.m. and the second will begin at 1 p.m. at 199 Ellis Street, Penticton. Both workshops will be identical.

All participants must pre-register so that The City can plan accordingly. Please visit http://www.penticton.ca/emworkshopaugust2022 to register or call City Hall at 250-490-2400. There is no limit on how many individuals can participate in a workshop.

Some of the topics that will be covered during the workshop include:
•    Creating a personal/household emergency plan
•    Appropriate insurance coverage for disasters/emergencies
•    Emergency Support Services available before, during and after an emergency
•    Using FireSmart to reduce the impacts of wildfire on your home

As wildfire season approaches, the City of Penticton and Penticton Fire Department would like to remind residents of all ages to ensure they have an emergency kit ready at all times, an evacuation plan, and know where to access information during an emergency. More information is available on the City’s emergency preparedness website at www.penticton.ca/emergencypreparedness.
