General Voting Day is tomorrow, June 19, 2021 - Due to COVID-19, we are encouraging candidates and their representatives to stay home and watch a Zoom live view of the counting process at the close of voting. The zoom meeting link will be available on the home page of the City of Penticton website. As soon as the last voter in the PTCC Polling Station has cast their ballot and left the building, the live zoom meeting will begin.
What to expect shortly after 8:00 p.m. when you join the Zoom meeting – Viewers will hear a brief hello from the City’s Chief Election Officer (CEO) following which the sound will be muted and you’ll see half of the room with the voting machines showing. The result tapes for each of the advance voting opportunities, general voting day and mail ballots will be printed. Once that is complete, the camera will be turned to the other half of the room towards the Administration Table and you’ll see the CEO and PEOs (Presiding Election Officials) at a laptop inputting the data from the tapes. The data they will enter are the amounts of votes cast for each candidate and the community opinion question from each voting opportunity. They will add these to arrive at the final total, then check and recheck.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. – CEO will approach the camera with an update. When ready – the CEO will announce the preliminary election results. The total votes for each candidate and the results of the Community Opinion Question will then be displayed.
