Lifesaving Society to provide learn-to-swim programs

Service Announcement

Penticton’s Winter Rec Guide will be available in the coming weeks and learn-to-swim programs will look different. The Penticton Community Centre pool will transition from offering the Canadian Red Cross Water Safety program to the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program in January 2023.

This change is a result of the Canadian Red Cross ending its water safety program after 75 years to focus more on global humanitarian efforts.

Instructors at the Penticton Community Centre pool will still provide high quality and effective swim lessons under the new program, the structure and materials will just look a little different.

In order to make the transition as smooth as possible, Lifesaving Society Canada has provided an equivalency chart and skills-at-a-glance information on their website for parents and guardians wondering which level to enrol their children in.

If you have questions about the equivalency chart or would like more information about swimming lessons, please contact the Penticton Community Centre at 250-490-2426.

For more information about the transition, please visit the Lifesaving Society Canada website. To view and/or register for available swimming lessons, watch for the release of the Winter Rec Guide in the coming weeks and then visit www.penticton.ca/register.
