Statement from Mayor Bloomfield on behalf of the City.
"I was deeply disturbed by reports of a white nationalist gathering on Tkʼemlúps te Secwépemc lands this weekend.
"White nationalism, racism and hatred have no place in our communities. Acts or displays that seek to intimidate, divide or make people feel unwelcome are contrary to the values that we strive to uphold across our region.
"On behalf of the City, I want to express our support for Tkʼemlúps te Secwépemc, its leadership, survivors, families and community members. We stand with those affected by this incident and reject the ideology of hate in all its forms.
"Penticton and Snpink'tn have built a strong relationship based on mutual respect, dialogue and a shared commitment to advancing reconciliation through meaningful action. Moments like this remind us that reconciliation is not simply about words. It requires all of us to speak out against discrimination and to foster communities where everyone feels safe, respected and valued.
"As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remain committed to learning from the past, strengthening relationships with Indigenous peoples and standing together against hatred, racism and intolerance wherever they occur."
