Penticton City Council will attend the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) convention this week, joining local government leaders from across B.C. to discuss issues that matter to Penticton and meet with provincial representatives.
Council has seven meetings scheduled with ministers, parliamentary secretaries and senior government officials during the convention. Discussions will focus on issues that affect residents every day, including housing, transportation, community safety, mental health and addictions services, environmental stewardship, climate resilience and economic development.
"UBCM is an important opportunity to have conversations about the issues communities are dealing with every day," said Mayor Julius Bloomfield. "It gives us a chance to share Penticton's perspective, learn from other communities and strengthen relationships with our provincial partners."
In addition to its meetings with provincial representatives, the City will also be featured in a conference session. General Manager of Public Safety and Partnerships Julie Czeck will present Powerful Partnership: Penticton's Public Safety Story, highlighting local partnerships and initiatives that support community safety in Penticton
Council will also participate in discussions related to a City-sponsored resolution being considered by UBCM members.
All members of Penticton City Council will attend the convention.
Held annually, the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) convention brings together local governments from across British Columbia to share ideas, discuss common challenges and engage with provincial decision-makers on issues affecting communities throughout the province.
