Penticton earns national honours for excellence in budgeting

News Release

The City of Penticton has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), marking a significant achievement in municipal financial planning and transparency.

This prestigious award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and reflects the City and Council’s commitment to meeting the highest standards in budget presentation. Penticton’s budget was evaluated on how effectively it serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications tool. The City also received special recognition for its strategic goals and strategies - a distinction granted when all reviewers assign top marks in a category.

“This award is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our staff,” says Mayor Julius Bloomfield. “It shows our commitment to transparency, accountability and long-term planning that reflects the priorities of our residents.”

The GFOA’s Budget Awards Program includes over 1,700 participants across North America. Penticton’s recognition places it among leading municipalities that are setting benchmarks in financial stewardship.

Angela Campbell, the City’s Chief Financial Officer, added: “Receiving this award - and the special recognition for our strategic goals - reinforces the strength of our financial planning process. It’s an honour to be acknowledged for our efforts to align budgeting with community priorities and long-term sustainability.”
